I recently moved to South Carolina. I've been looking for a butcher shop everywhere I've lived and haven't been able to find one that meets my needs. From the moment I walked in to the New York Butcher Shoppe, I could smell the amazing smoke flavor in the air. I was immediately greeted by one of the workers behind the counter which instantly gave me a welcomed feeling. As I glanced around the shoppe I noticed a variety of precooked foods, a wall of wine bottles displayed in a wooden case under ambient lighting and the showcase of meats, both cooked and uncooked. The selection of cuts was impressive and I fully intend to buy some when I get moved into my house. I spoke to Matt, one of the gentlemen behind the counter, and he answered all my questions about the establishment and what they had to offer. I was very satisfied with the customer service and friendliness of the staff. I came back later in the evening to buy dinner to take home for my family and after warming it up and eating, we quickly came to the agreement that the food had exceeded our expectations. The wings were larger than any wings we had ever eaten. Almost like mini chicken legs. Although a bit over seasoned, it wasnt unpleasant in the least bit. They were still juicy despite being precooked and refrigerated. There was a hint of spiciness to the flavor in the rub complemented with the sweetness that is bbq. We also bought a rack of their house smoked ribs which, to my satisfaction, were not overcooked and mushy like most restaurants I've gone to. Bite tender and perfectly seasoned, I felt comfortable paying the price. We also tried the mashed potatoes, which weren't disappointing but nothing special. Topping them with diced ham was a nice touch, though. The last thing we ordered was the lobster mac and cheese and it was my first time trying this dish anywhere. The tray was heavily packed with mac and cheese. I definitely got my money's worth on that. The cheese was creamy and the shredded lobster was subtle but delicious. My family of 4 couldnt finish the entire rack of ribs, 3 lbs of wings, and the 2 sides. There will be some left over for lunch tomorrow. I will definitely be returning as a regular.
